The location of the hotel is great, with extensive grounds and stunning views from the rooms. The rooms are spacious and luxurious, with comfortable beds and beautiful decor. The service provided by the hosts Angus and Jane is exceptional, they are welcoming and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Additionally, the breakfast is delicious, with a great show of local produce.
The menu options for dinner were limited, with only three choices for starters and mains.

A Perfect Easter
We recently had the pleasure of staying at a beautiful country house in a tranquil area of the UK for the Easter holidays. The hospitality provided at Cavens Country House was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we felt as though we were in our own serene haven.

The building is very old and has character.
The weather wasn't good for the short time we were there, and it was very cool in the evening and early morning, but there was no heating on in the building. Although it was summer, I think the holtel owner needs to make the place welcoming to guests, which includes providing heating when it is cold. The evening meals were expensive so we dined out.

This posh hotel set in acres of parkland was a paradise for my taste buds with its daily-changing menus and excellent wine list. The antique furniture added to the luxurious feel. Plus, there were plenty of activities and beautiful natural spots to explore in the area.
Shame I couldn't bring my pet elephant, they didn't allow animals.

Apart from the above, the personal touch we liked prior to departure, was the owner thanking us for staying with them & hoped to see us again! Breakfast meal was also great, with complimentary fruit cake with a pot of tea on arrival. Would stay here again, assuming they would have us!!
The exterior of the building requires painting but sure this will done soon? We didn't stay for the evening meal due to a prior engagement, but the price appeared high for what was on offer?

The hosts were total legends, welcoming us with afternoon tea on the terrace. We chilled in the walled garden, spotting wildlife and soaking up the sun. Explored epic coastal paths and hit up Threave gardens. The food was epic, the wine was lit, and the vibes were unreal. Defo coming back!
Just wish there was a bit more hype for party animals like us. A cool bar or club nearby would've made our nights even more epic.

Nice hotel and good location for seeing Dumfries and Galloway
Would have preferred an option on evening meal to have 1 or 2 courses with a reduction in cost rather than having to eat the fixed price 3 course meal.
